Similar-sounding names and misused ISI marks can confuse buyers. Before you pay, identify the full brand and manufacturer—then verify the pipe's IS number and CM/L licence with BIS.
These are separate manufacturer and brand identities—not three spellings of one company. Match the wording on the pipe to the manufacturer shown by the BIS licence.
Manufacturer: Jindal Industries Pvt. Limited. Its official site describes pipes engraved with the ISI mark and a “Jindal” trademark using an India-map device in an oval, with “HISSAR” underneath.

Manufacturer: Jindal Pipes Limited. The official Jindal site identifies Jindal Star as its ERW black and galvanised steel pipe brand; it was earlier branded Jindal Ghaziabad.
Check the official brand page ↗Do not assume that a similar-sounding name belongs to any of the three manufacturers above. Ask the seller to identify the legal manufacturer and show the valid BIS licence for that exact pipe. A name alone cannot prove a connection. Equally, this guide does not declare every other business using “Jindal” to be counterfeit—that conclusion requires evidence from the trademark owner or authorities.
Do this before cutting, threading, dispatch or installation. One clear phone photo of the full marking can save a costly dispute later.
Inspect more than the largest word. Look along the pipe for the full brand, legal manufacturer or recognisable identity, size/class and traceability details. Photograph it while it is still legible.
Phrases such as “as per IS,” “fitted with ISI” or “as per ISS” are not substitutes for certification. BIS specifically identifies such wording and imitations as warning signs.
For common steel tubes used for water, gas and air up to 150 mm nominal bore, IS 1239 (Part 1) is widely used. Larger or specialised pipes may follow standards such as IS 3589 or another project specification—so match the standard to your purchase order.
The BIS mark should be accompanied by a licence number shown as CM/L-…. A logo without a readable licence number is not enough. Do not accept a licence number shown only on a loose sample or unrelated certificate.
Use “Verify Licence Details.” Confirm that the licence is valid, the manufacturer and factory match the pipe, and the scope includes the Indian Standard printed on it. A real number borrowed from another factory or product is still a mismatch.
Buy from a traceable dealer, take a GST invoice with brand, size and class, and keep the pipe-marking photo. For project quantities, request the relevant manufacturer test certificate or supply traceability.
The BIS Care app is free and includes “Verify Licence Details.” BIS also notes that its licence number identifies the manufacturing unit at a specific location.
A low price, light weight, cap colour or surface finish may justify extra checking, but none proves a fake on its own. Verify traceable facts.
BIS says misuse and imitation of the ISI mark occurs and describes enforcement against unlicensed marking, including a case involving steel pipes.
The BIS product manual for IS 1239 Part 1 requires marking that includes the Standard Mark, licence number and brand identification in relevant manufacturing flows.
Jindal Stainless has publicly reported counterfeiting in decorative stainless pipes and created the Jindal Saathi seal for that separate category—evidence that buyers should verify, not assume.
