What each device does
An MCB provides overcurrent protection, covering overload and short-circuit conditions within its specification. An RCCB detects residual current; it does not replace overcurrent protection. An RCBO combines residual-current and overcurrent protection. The EXORA, AU and Tripper catalogs include these device categories, with different configurations and ratings.
Treat the board as a system
A complete distribution board needs coordinated incoming and outgoing devices, suitable busbars, adequate wiring space and compatible accessories. Isolators provide switching isolation and must not be mistaken for an MCB or RCCB. Surge protection is another distinct function. Choose the enclosure and its devices together instead of selecting each item solely by price.
Compare the specification, not only the amperes
For a meaningful comparison, include poles, rated voltage, current, trip curve, breaking capacity and, where relevant, residual-current type and sensitivity. The necessary values depend on the circuit and the site. Have the project electrician or designer verify these details rather than copying a rating from a neighbouring installation.
What to send for a quote
Send the circuit schedule, supply arrangement, preferred range, required enclosure layout and selected device specifications. Identify whether an enquiry concerns a new board or replacement devices in an existing board. Photos of the existing labels can help confirm compatibility; do not substitute a device because its dimensions look similar.
